Google’s mission statement is “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”. And this is their biggest change to date. Every year, Google implements major changes to the search algorithm to ensure its relevance and usefulness for everyone. It’s a complex process with many factors affecting SEO and consistency. What’s more remarkable is they just recently announced they’ll do it again! What do these changes mean for your business? The new update Google is going to launch in July 2021 is the Page Layout Update. It is a major algorithm update that Google is going to launch and it is going to target site designs that have a high ad to content ratio. The update will also include a change to the mobile interstitial penalty. There are two factors that separate the Internet’s oldest and hottest brand, Google. The Google brand is classical and is associated with good quality and utility. Their competitors, Facebook and Amazon, are not too far behind. Google is the company that sits between the two and they have made several bold moves in this space. Like everyone else, Google puts their money where their mouth is and track down the best of the best. Let’s take a look at what Google is going to do to you. The first step in their new search algorithm is going to be to take a look at how your site’s interstitial ads (which are designed to bring your users to the main content advertisement) are running. The review is just one part of Google’s upcoming algorithm update. They’re going to use this information to determine what’s considered a good interstitial ad and what’s not. From the update’s announcement: “So we’ll start with extended interstitials on Google websites. These are ads that disappear as soon as you leave the content you’re reading — often brands will run this on mobile, sometimes on desktop. Short interstitials are two to three seconds and come in pairs of ads. Interstitials are what most people think of when they think of Google ads, but we want to target ads based on relevance and user experience, that’s also why we’ll start applying these updates around the world.” This means that your sites best interstitial is going to be the one that brings you to the main content — not the one that takes you away to another page. You’ll know that Google’s design team is working on your site when every interstitial ad on your website has to do the same thing.
How will my business be affected by the new algorithm..?

With the new changes to the Facebook algorithm, Facebook will be prioritising content from friends and family above business pages. This means that people will be spending more time on Facebook interacting with and engaging with friends and family, and less time on Facebook passively scrolling through business pages. You might think this is great news. You might think it means your business page will suddenly gain traffic, get featured, get more views, and more followers. This is not the case. With the change to the Facebook algorithm, the time a user spends on Facebook will not be the same after using your business page. Some people will obviously see a huge increase in their time on your page and others, who have zero business page engagement, might see their profile time decrease. As a result, your ranking on Google search and at Facebook will change. When you’re searching for information, showing up in top results pages (topics), or tagging and publishing images, you’ll have less time to engage with your audience. This means generating leads, nurturing relationships, and driving sales will become tougher. Don’t despair if you’re not seeing the results you expected. The good news is, as Google changes their algorithm every 3 months, this will be the update in july 2021. With every update, businesses like yours are forced to adapt by only listing services on the platforms they truly want to be featured. With this update comes an important caveat. Google will not blatantly remove your business from the internet. Instead, the update is meant to create an environment in which businesses only show up as relevant, and therefore used, search queries, in their organic search results. If you establish yourself as more than just a store, perhaps through quality content or even collaborations, Google will allow you to show up there. If you’re truly a service business, you’ll have to surface more. If you’re a social media platform this could mean showing up in front of your current organic reader base, or perhaps posting images alongside your blog posts.

Instead of repeating the same action unconsciously, consciously choose to do one kind of behavior instead of another.

Seed-stage users – users that search for information within a fraction of a second of typing a query into a search box. When the algorithm is initially presented to the algorithm team, each group is given a different spin on how the algorithm should work.
